Text 2.0 The future of reading or end of Kindle ?

I like the idea that Text becomes interactive. It's a natural progression and Currently I rely on something similar in the wikipedia environment there is a  Mouse over tool to achieve a similar effect I think of it as "Tag-n-Glance" but its called "navigation -popups" check it out AFTER you sign in OR have a look here
Text 2.x Does however seen to require a new depth of semantic meta-data. I'm not sure what the state of the art is but it looks like a new level of "auto pilot" is required. I imagine that  there is some how an algorithmic basis for the semantic interpretation inherent in the Fading and other "effects" that make the text "look" interactive. Most of what was shown could be rapidly deployed based on WIKI style interactivity coupled with the eye tracking device. BUT the real magic is in the linguistic end of the implementation. Imagine a version of the Wong et al Backchannel support function scale, but akin to an EMPATHIC support scale, displayed as perhaps a CSS SKIN  consisting of colour  or even specific animation of the text! eg Text is animated along the lines of a "Dynamic" Cloud tag or "trending" relevence tag.

Implementing it in the current environment is probably a little less of a challenge than magic normally appears  Considering the  current location of the standard Laptop or iMac  / TV Web camera that is embedded in most Laptops will soon be upgraded from monocular to binocular. This is likely to be driven by 3d Conferencing while its an "eyecandy" much like skype now the added  "in 3d" will be irrestistable to the Vendors. Adding a second HIGH res Camera or Split Lens will in effect allow Eye and head tracking now in its infancy in the Web Camera market lead by Logitech. Sony and FujiFilm  are alread marketing standalone cameras. Once the market buys in they will miniaturise and add them to Latops etc.

It has the potential to impact the way we read in the same way that auto complete and auto spell check features effect the writing or keying process now. I'm not sure that TEXT 2.0 will be a hit but TEXT 2.3 should be ok for every day use. I'm typing now and while the auto-magical spell checker in Firefox red squiggles my typing I would actually prefer a TEXT 2.x review at the end when I read it back.

Gotta run to a meeting ! in 3 D !

I'll ask my Kindle bearing colleage if he has TEXT2.x loaded on his Kindle and wait for the raised eybrow !
