As you know I track some parts of the IT industry on the horizon,
every now and then I see what looks like a wave we could catch or be inundated by, depending on you view.
Here's a couple of waves for your radar.
1. Software as a Service ( ASP)
I've noted some maturity is emerging in the Software as Service (SaS ) IT sector,
It looks like ASP is nearing Market Prime-time, to see how Salesforce does it, check out HOW Salesforce.com present their solution.
2. SaS Locked in on Telecoms
I caught Peter Kazacos on the Fairfax media Video Interview series,
I was not aware that he's relaunched himself after an acquisition with his new liquidity
(PK Advantage http://pkba.com.au/)
He's combining SaS and telecoms into a client lock-in strategy which would be very powerful especially in our SMB market where the stake holders are relatively low tech but have the cash to spend on projects that are inherently fleeting in terms of infrastructure.
His plan is to sell Telecoms links or / and SaS and therefore lock in revenue and profit in our SMB targets

3. SAS Locked in on Mobile devices
Points 1 and 2 are particularly poignant if you consider the moves key players are making into the mobile computing market.
This year BIG players are now moving in this space, the days of retail apps for Palm and Mobile PC's are coming to an end.
eg Apple has proven their technology and marketing strategy and are now rolling out a value proposition for developers. It's Apple's HOME PAGE Focus this month.
AND
Telstra's Sensis team ( yellow pages etc ) is commencing development of Map integrated Iphone Apps

So who's doing it ?
Yesterday BOQ and ANZ have both launched Mobile device Banking,
so not only are the 13>24 Market segment now trained to spend ( via Itunes) but now 18>40 year olds will be banking on their phones.

Taking these Three unrelated waves and combine them at a point in time not to far way with ubiquitous Mobile computing and you have a monster wave of opportunity which overlaps almost all segments of the Home SmalL Office and SMB Marketplace.
IT IS going to be huge !
Now where's my flying car !
